Women In Action

Hello and Happy 2001! Lots of things have been happening with Women In Action, so let's get right to it!!

The Island Getaway FUNraiser Oct. 26 at Broadway Studios was a great success! Caribbean Rhythms steel drum band kept our feet happy while great deals happened at the silent auction. Generous party-goers helped raise over $3500 for WIA! Congrats to Ellen Palmer whose last minute bid secured her a great Outward Bound trip to Joshua Tree, and Mary and Dana Mitchell who scored both a spa day and kayak trip! Special thanks to Allen Scott and Mystery Machine Productions for setting up the venue and band, and Troop 555 for sponsorships and promotional assistance.

Activities: An enthusiastic and brave group of women tackled the Ft. Miley Ropes Course on November 1. After stretching and warming up, we tried a few trust exercises to get us ready for the wires! The low elements were fun and challenging. It's hard to keep your balance even a few inches off the ground! We had lots of laughs and team spirit.

After lunch (in the sun!), it was back to the challenge of high ropes. First up, the Eagle's Perch - you climb up a 30 foot high telephone pole, push yourself onto a small, tiny platform (30-ft in the air!) and jump off to hit a tetherball! (of course you are tied into harness and top rope).

Most of our group gave this very scary challenge a try! Also, the high wire walk, zip line and rope crossing. Those on the ground shouted encouragement and provided "spots" for climbers. I think the team really worked well together, and everyone did much more than they expected.

Congrats to the women of WICS Team 5!!
